Becky Inkster

Interests: I am a clinical neuroscientist, seeking innovative ways to improve our understanding and treatment of mental health. I am passionate about combining sectors on topics related to artificial intelligence, psychiatry, psychology, neuroscience, digital ethics, and culture. I have first-hand experiences with digital/clinical/music-based interventions, social media data, molecular biology, neuroimaging, statistics, epidemiology, psychology, psychiatry, neuropsychopharmacology, ultra-audible psychoacoustics and watermarking, policy, public engagement, the arts (fashion, digital interactive theatre, and music).

Recent Activities (2018): invited speaker at the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) NASA partnership, workshop speaker at the AI for Government Summit; invited judge for the IBM Watson AI XPrize competition; invited attendee to the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit; invited symposium at the American Psychiatric Association; commissioned Series by The Lancet Psychiatry on digital mental health; working with Facebook to inform policies and products supporting mental health; presented at the United Nations AI for Good Summit on the topic of trust and disadvantaged AI stakeholders in collaboration with the Centre for the Future of Intelligence (University of Cambridge); I am the Creator of the Digital Innovation in Mental Health Conference (London, UK); starting a digital social prescribing venture using algorithms to match personal needs; working on AI mental healthcare chatbot-based interventions (analyses, creating culturally-sensitive youth-focused designs, especially for marginalized populations); researching genomics and social networking data, pairing longitudinal offline cohort data with digital footprints; EPO clinical trials in depression related to cognition, hippocampal volume and GSK3beta genetic networks. Previously, I was Senior Research Director for a £5.3m award by the Wellcome Trust investigating young people’s mental health.

Academic Degrees: DPhil in molecular neuropathology (Department of Psychiatry, Oxford University, UK), BSc Hon in psychology and anthropology (University of Toronto, Canada).

Affiliations: Honorary Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge (UK), Visiting Scholar in the Columbia School of Social Work at Columbia University (USA).
