Professor Naotaka Shinfuku holds joint appointments as Professor at the School of Human Sciences, Seinan Gakuin University, and Emeritus Professor at the Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine. Professor Shinfuku was received his undergraduate education at Kyusyu University, and further obtained his PhD at the Tokyo University. He was previously appointed as Professor of the International Center for Medical Research at Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, an appointment he held for more than 10 years. He has also served as the WHO Regional Advisor in Mental Health and Drug Dependence for the Office of the Western Pacific from 1981 to 1994. He is currently part of the International Committee of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology, and serves as the East Asia Zonal Representative at the World Psychiatric Association. He is also an Executive Member at the World Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, and a Council Member of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations. Professor Shinfuku’s areas of interest include social psychiatry, international health, epidemiology, mental health services in Asia, and disaster mental health.
